Baby Update

I have been so busy that I haven't updated, and I promised I would. Here's the scoop. Tomorrow morning, first thing, Elizabeth's Doctor is going to decide what they will be doing. Sadly, there's a good chance she'll have to have surgery. We're sure praying that she will be able to have the baby naturally.

The baby is not in position, which, in this case, means that her head is not pressing down where it should be.

Since she's not, they can't do any of the things that they would normally do to help labor progress, i.e. break her water, induce labor, and a few others. This is because all of those could or would cause her water to break, and without the baby's head in place, that would cause presentation of the umbilical cord. THAT is a serious emergency. If the cord becomes pinched between the baby's head and the side of the birth canal, which would be unavoidable if it came out first, then the baby's blood and oxygen supply is cut off. So you understand.

She's walking her little tootsies off. The Doctor suggested swimming, but it just wasn't warm enough today, so she came over to float in the spa. Let you know! We will have a baby, and really, really soon!

Pray for them!

June 2 update: This morning's appointment involved a Non Stress Test for the baby. He feels that the baby is stable, and he will give Mommy a few more days to try to go into labor naturally. Isn't that wonderful?! Thank you for the prayers! We're feeling encouraged and are reminded that God is in control.

It's a Beautiful Day

What a beautiful day it is! It's my Mother's Birthday! I finally feel well! I have been sick for two weeks! Of course, now I've shared it with my poor husband, but he doesn't have asthma, and it doesn't seem to be getting him down quite like it did me. I am so very thankful for that.

Daughter had her checkup today, everything looks great, but still no baby! {Although, today would be a really nice day, on Grandma's birthday, don't you think?} Then Grandma's only daughter's, only daughter's, only daughter would be born on her birthday! I like the sound of that!

Sam is at work. He's getting lots of hours, hurray! Great for him to put as much away as he can before the wedding! They're making great progress with the wedding plans. Less than a month! What an exciting time of life!

First Son and Bebe are house hunting. How wonderful! Preparing their nest for their precious, growing family. She's starting to show, and it's the cutest little tummy!

My dear husband is tearing the old landscaping out from around our pool, and replacing it with tropical plants. This is California, after all, they'll probably thrive here, so why not?

It's supposed to be in the mid 90's today, and the doctor told Daughter to walk, so we're headed for the mall where it's cool, with a double stroller for her little guy and his (practically twin) cousin {see Cowbuddies}, and pretzels and balloons and a grand time will be had by all!

I'll let you know how it goes! Talk to you soon! Wish us luck!

P.S. I've had lots and lots of lookers, but no one has entered the giveaway. I'm wondering if it's just that nobody wants a pearl necklace. Odd. Anyway, if you want to be entered, your odds are pretty good! Enter, enter, enter! All you have to do leave a comment! Read the giveaway post for guidelines.

Coming Soon! 100th Post Giveaway!

I'm closing in on post number 100! You know what that means, don't you? The 100th post is celebrated with a handmade give-a-way! Now, I dabble in just about everything, so the possibilities are pretty nearly endless. Nine more posts, that's it! I'll decide between now and then, but I'm kind of leaning towards jewelry. What do you think? I guess I'm going to have to break down and load my photos onto someone else's computer to get this done! Maybe for a celebration, I'll just buy a new computer.

Time should pass quickly, there is so much going on! SO much to write about! Within the next thirty days; 1.) We will decorate a nursery; 2.) Our first Granddaughter will arrive to join our three Grandsons; 3. & 4.)We will have a Bridal Shower and a College Graduation Party; 5.) Our youngest son will marry; 6.)We'll have eight birthdays {at least, if I'm counting right} {including mine!}; 7.) We'll celebrate Fathers' Day, and . . . and . . . There must be more, there are still days on the calendar without commitments! Have to be oversights!

So . . .I'm thinking the giveaway will be . . .maybe . . .a pearl necklace, or maybe a silver bracelet, or maybe a necklace made with the new technique that I learned when I took the class from Robin Dudley-Howes, down at Gilding the Lily in Fullerton.

Here's how the giveaway will work . . . starting now, comment on a post, and I will put all of your names into a hat and draw a name three days after the 100th post! {Only one entry per post will count though. So theoretically, you can enter nine times if you comment on each post from now till Number 100!} I'll follow the comment link back to you for notification. If I'm not able to {for instance if you don't have a blog}, you'll need to check back to see if you've won. Sound good?

My Life Sans Computer . . .sigh

Hi! I'm back! Sort of . . . No pictures yet . . . still not using my own computer . . . sigh . . . but I may break down and load them onto Sam's tomorrow. What a month! What a week!

No baby yet! Apparently, we did bedrest right. {Yes, "We". This has become a team event.} She is nearing full term.

Let's see, since I wrote . . .hmmm . . .Mark spent about a week in Santa Barbara at the forest fire. I am so happy to have him home again. It was getting so lonesome. He was especially anxious for a real bed and other {ahem} homestyle amenities.

Sam and Amy (Amy's sister, too) graduated from the University. . . Summa cum laude. What can I say? I am so very, very proud of them! Then you know, sometime after the wedding, they'll be off to Seminary.

My Mother drove down to the graduation with me, and we had the most wonderful time! I bought our room on Priceline, so what we get is always a little surprise, and as usual, it was wonderful! The Radisson Suites in West Covina. Beautiful, comfortable, a twenty minute drive from the University, just great! And the restaurant, mmm mmmm.

In March, I had been scheduled to take a class from Robin Dudley-Howes, but at the last minute, I was unable to make it. And, you know, LA is quite a drive from California's Central Valley, so you can imagine that I was absolutely thrilled when she wrote to tell me that she was opening up a class the day after the graduation! Mom attended with me while Sam tried to cram his apartment into my pick-up, err . . . pack, I mean, pack.

Robin's class was SO worth the effort! When I have photo ability again, I'll show you what I made, in the meantime, here's a link.

Came home for a night then flew up to Seattle the next morning to assist with our niece's wedding. Which, by the way, was beautiful! It was sweet and personal and intimate and very spiritual. It was lovely, positively lovely.

I arrived back home sick, sick, sick. Asthma. Oh my Goodness, I'm sick. May be that I just can't take this activity level any more, sheesh. My Grandma always says, "It's no shame, getting old, but it sure is mighty un-handy".

I need to be well, up and around ASAP. I have another wedding scheduled this weekend. I think they expect their florist to produce! Silly people.

It's all so crazy and it's positively wonderful. Here we are; waiting for the baby, counting the days till Sam and Amy's wedding, wanting to be well, ahh . . .what a blessed year it is! And all of it without my computer! Just waiting for one more part!

And there is more! So much more. Oh, what a wonderful life! We are so Blessed!

Big, BIG news!

So much to tell you!

We have been so very, very busy! I wish I could show you the photos, but I can promise that this will be a photo-rich post once I am able to show them. In the meantime, my computer is on the fritz, I tripped over the cord a few days ago, and I'm pretty sure that's the root of the problem, it has no power. Today, I can use Sam's. He's home for Easter vacation, but has to return to school tomorrow. I always hate for him to leave. . . . big sigh . . . It has been so much fun to have him at home. We have worked his fingers to the bone. I dare say, he's looking forward to the rest.

Where do I begin? Elizabeth is on bedrest. It seems that her baby daughter may make an early appearance. With her little boy, she's been staying with us while Justin has been working out of town. He came home last evening. I can imagine how happy they must be to be together as a family unit in their own home. Especially their new home.

That's one of the other activities that has been keeping us hopping! With Justin out of town, and Elizabeth on bedrest, the rest of us have been trying to settle them in to the new house. There was a deadline {besides the impending birth of Little Girl}, yesterday, the Elizabeths hosted a Bridal Shower for Sam's bride, Amy there.

It was a lovely shower. Bebe made the most wonderful cake! I have photos, but am not using my own computer, so, sit on the camera, they must. About half of the attendees had to travel substantial distances {I think a hundred miles could be considered substantial, don't you?} Thank you, to all of you. It was positively wonderful! They are nearly set in the kitchen!

Our youngest grandson has just had a birthday! It was such a blast! {More stored photos! I sure hope the Geek Squad can help!} He had the ultimate three year old pirate themed party. All of the little boys arrived costumed as swashbuckling buckaneers. I have to tell you, it was pretty much, one of the cutest things ever! His Mommy made his pirate ship birthday cake. You will not believe it! I feel like such a tease.

And there is more big news! As if a BIRTHDAY, a BABY and a WEDDING aren't enough. . . {drumroll, please} . . .you know that Sam and Amy are both graduating from college this year, and some of you know that he has been applying to graduate schools. . . here it comes . . . he's going to PRINCETON! Okay, okay, I am his Mom, you understand . . . I could just pop! I am so proud!

Well Dear Ones, I will write again, as soon as I can. I have to go sit down for a few minutes, and try to recover!

~Much Love!

Rose Scents and Memories of May Day

This is my favorite rose in all the world. It grows in my backyard. I bought it at the grocery store, bare root, unpatented . . . I don't know how many years ago. I saw a similar one at a nursery once, it might be called Autumn Sunset. A perfect name, I think.

When I inhale the aroma of this particular rose, I become seven years old again. That's about second grade. I remember picking roses from the rose bushes in the backyard, against the back fence. {The very same rose bushes where my brothers and I dared to tempt fate and caught bees in canning jars when we were little}.

I sniff and I can hear the scissors snipping short childish snips of heavy, colored construction paper, which will be shaped into a cone. And I smell school paste. Do you remember the stuff that I'm referring to?. . .it was in a white bottle with an orange top, thick and white, we applied it with the applicator that was an extension of the handle on the lid. We would paste a long handle on the cone, and impatiently wait for it to dry enough to support the weight of Mom's freshly cut roses.

On May 1st, before school, we would take a little trek across the backyard wetting our shoes in the dewy, wet lawn to cut the most bea-u-ti-ful flowers from Mother's garden, wrap the stems in tin-foil and carry our gorgeous treasures to school. Any child whose Mother had plenty in bloom would bring extras, as would our teachers, just in case anyone forgot. Usually there was an ample supply to fill out to every little child's bouquet. Roses, especially, but I remember sweet peas, and daffodils. Hmm . . .daffodils. . . is that likely in May? Maybe just a pleasant memory, misplaced in time . . .

When we made our little tussie mussies with our elementary classroom teachers, if allowed, I always made two. One for my Mother and one for Miss Pearl, who in my childish recollection was a dead ringer for Mrs. Piggle Wiggle. I walked by Miss Pearl's house on my way home. We would open her gate, and giggle up the path to her back door, climb the steps, hang our little basket of posies on her door handle, knock and run like mad! If we were really, really lucky, she would catch us, and offer milk and cookies.

Then, homeward bound with the bestest one for my own Mother, I would repeat the May Day ritual . . .tiptoe, drape it over the knob, knock and run like mad! Of course, at my house, I would hide someplace in the front yard and watch while my beautiful Mother answered the door, and would exclaim with such great surprise, "How lovely! Whoever could have left this?" . . . to a 'surprise' popping out, great giggles and hugs.

This was just the most wonderful fun! I don't think a May Day passed that my Mother didn't help me make more for my favorite neighbor ladies. More knocking and hiding. Lovely childhood memories . . . which reminds me where I started here, that rose . . .

I wish that you could smell this delicious rose. I think it's a little bit like strawberries. Every time I say that to someone though, they look at me like I'm kinda bonkers. I suppose that must mean it's my own personal scent category, and the description just doesn't register for others.

Anyway . . . I digressed, but I certainly enjoyed that little trip that I was just allowed down Memory Lane . . . sigh . . . It was a lovely time to be a child, wasn't it?

While we're on the subject of childhood memories anyway . . . I am offering you the chance to make a memory, too. While I searched for a link for Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, I found that there was a television series made in the 90s, with Jean Stapleton! I can't wait to watch it! Here's the link for you, too! If you don't already love her, I think I can safely promise that you will!

~Enjoy! Love!

I do, so love my Rose Tree
